Military and Book Literacy Sponsorship

Soon after publication of American Sports Legends: Your Turn to Score, a reservist approached D. A. Jennings and mentioned that her book would be ideal for military members.  He believed service men and women could identify with the athletes who face challenges that appear insurmountable, but because of their perseverance and hard work they triumph.  With thirty-two years of civilian service within the Department of Army, the author was hooked on the idea.

Word began to spread of her desire to provide books to the wounded, ill, and deploying military members.  Soon family, friends and patrons from her author event signings began sponsoring books.  On the first page of every book, that is provided to a service member, is a label which relays appreciation for their service and it provides the name of the individual, family or group that has sponsored the book for them. Below you will find the sponsors and the number of books that have been distributed to various locations.

As with the successful military donations, D.A. Jennings is has started a Read to Succeed program Over the years, she has presented numerous readings, at no charge, to public and private schools, and other gatherings of children. With each presentation she became more convicted of the need for all children to have the opportunity to own their own book. Then, as fate would have it, she was invited by Jennifer Palmer, at Hall's Cross Road Elementary School, to be their guest author for Family Reading Night on May 18th, 2023. The school had received a grant which enabled them to purchase one book for each family that attended the event. After each of the two presentations that evening, Jennings witnessed the electrifying excitement of the children when she talked to them and they received their books. It was clear, action needed to be taken. Thus began her search for sponsors, which led her to the Joppatowne Lions Club and their desire to help the community.

Join D.A. Jennings in donating a book to a child beginning their reading journey or support our military with a challenging sports trivia book.
